As Director of Research on Public Interests & Concerns, Mrs. Smith's responsibility is to conduct, direct, and supervise all research on issues and matters that are of priority concern to American Citizens. Such issues or matters become the major projects of the AMERICAN CITIZENRY INSTITUTE, taking into account and including the appropriate allocation of all pertinent resources.
Mrs. Smith is the mother of three children, grandmother to six, and great-grandmother to four. She was employed by the County of San Francisco for 10 years as a clinic and social service eligibility worker for hospital admissions. In this capacity, Mrs. Smith processed numerous trauma cases per shift in a hospital emergency intake unit.
Mrs. Smith entered the San Francisco Sheriff's Department in 1973 and spent the next 27 years in various positions earning her basic, intermediate, and advanced post certificates. She supervised a County jail facility with a population of over 700 including misdemeanor, felony, and federal inmates, and a support staff of approximately 40. Her responsibilities included the supervision of transporting convicted prisoners to State prisons, internal affairs investigator, and the drafting of official reports. Mrs. Smith also served as court bailiff in municipal, superior criminal, and juvenile courts.
Working in the various fields of law enforcement has given Mrs. Smith insurmountable experience, which has enabled her to become a proficient supervisor and leader. Mrs. Smith retired as a Sheriff's Lieutenant in 2000 with a combined 37 years of service with both the County and City of San Francisco. Shortly thereafter, she relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada.
